The Almásy family has always been a family of adventurers and explorers. For six generations we are now hosting guests at Bernstein Castle because only real travellers know what a guest really needs.

The Hotel

A castle
as hideaway

Today Bernstein Castle is a small, family run hotel with nine lovingly restored rooms. We offer to experience the flair of a time long gone and an astonishing view over Styria and Lower Austria.

The castle

800 years of history.
And thousands of stories.

The first stone walls were built in the 12th century. The most famous resident of the castle was probably pilot and desert explorer László Almásy, who became famous when the movie "The English Patient" was released in 1996.

Guided tours

Wednesday to Sunday and on national holidays at 11am we offer guided tours at the castle. Open 1st of May - 5th of October. Entry for non-hotel guests is only granted as part of the tour.

Events

Concerts and workshops are being conducted several times per year. The castle is also available for rent for weddings and other festivities.

We offer an exciting, oenological journey across Central and Eastern Europe, with Austrian classics like Grüner Veltliner and Zweigelt, but also exotic wines like Furmint or Tokaj Aszú.
