After the Austro-Ottoman wars ended the castle´s walls and bastions were turned into an vast garden, which you can now visit during on the guided tours.

The most famous inhabitant of the castle was László E. Almásy, whose adventures were turned into the book and movie „The English Patient“, which recieved 9 Oscars in 1997, including „Best Movie“. You can learn more about his life here...

or while participating in one the guided tours, which we offer daily Wednesday - Sunday from May 15th to September 30th at 11 am. You will visit the garden, the prison, the chapel our grand Renaissance-hall with stuccos made in the 16th and 17th century.

The tour lasts about one hour and is mainly conducted outside, so bringing weather adapted clothing is advised. Included in the entry fee is a glass of our own Almásy wine and a 15% voucher that you can spend in the café located at the village´s main square. After the tour we offer the possibility to buy wine from the Almásy collection as a souvenir.

Adults 19.- Euros (without wine 15.- Euros)

Reduced Fee 12.- Euros (without wine 8.- Euros)

The reduced fee is available for children between 6 and 18 years, students, pensioners and members of the military and substitute civil service

No entrance fee for children under 6 years

Meeting point is in front of the castle´s gate.



On one of our bastions (part of the tour) you will see one of the oldest horse chestnut trees, which is about 250 years old.


The garden is tended to by Andrea Almásy personally, who spends most of her time caring for the 25 000 sqm large premise since she retired in 2019.
